Travel Lake Vermilion's length of over 40 miles (east to west) with one of our easy on fuel vessels (average 10 gallons/day) and experience a little bit of everything.   Lake Vermilion is well marked with buoys for novice navigators, but the more than 365 islands and jagged shoreline can challenge even the most experienced sailor.  In fact, Lake Vermilion in terms of shoreline, is the largest lake in Minnesota.
The biggest advantage to house boating is that you can choose a different location each night.   Sleep on the north end of the lake one night, and bunk at the south end the next.  Spend one night in a secluded bay appreciating nature and the next night gambling away tip money at the casino.
See the entire lake and enjoy the most dazzling shoreline and rock outcroppings from the water.  Our breathtaking sunsets are beautiful and are best enjoyed from our romantic enclaves distributed about the lake.  Majestic pines and the bewitching White Birch are blended with other trees to make our forest unique.  You might see the mighty bald Eagle soaring overhead, seagulls gliding gracefully through the air in search for food, the beautiful Blue heron standing one legged near shore, and other birds in quantities too numerous to list here.  Look along the shore and perhaps you will glimpse a deer nibbling on new growth, or a black bear down at the water for a drink.  Wildlife is plentiful and possible to see when you ease into a secluded bay or cove.
If you want to add to your sightseeing, feel free to return to port, jump in your car and take a drive in the area.  We have interesting and unusual sights and activates to entertain the entire family.  You can take a guided tour 2,400 feet into a historic underground iron mine at the Tower/Soudan Mine State Park.  See how the first iron ore was mined in Minnesota's Iron Country, or tour a modern open pit iron mine and see how it is done today.  With just a short drive you can play bingo and other Vegas-style games at Fortune Bay Gaming Casino.  For hockey enthusiasts, the U.S. Hockey hall of Fame in Eveleth is open daily during the summer.  See a steam locomotive and old passenger car that have been a museum of the history of the Tower/Soudan area.  Miniature golf and several competitive golf courses are located nearby for  those who enjoy the links.  This includes The Wilderness Golf Course (reachable by houseboat) which was named "The best new upscale public course" of 2005 by Golf Digest.
Here on Lake Vermilion you have the chance for total relaxation.  Do what you want, when you want, or do nothing at all!  The choice is yours on LAKE VERMILION.
